SinglesInAmericalogoDating. Say the word, and it can cause many different reactions based upon who you talk to. For some, dating is a great way to meet people and single out that one person that you could potentially make a life with. For others, it’s a bad word full of negative experiences and not-so-pleasant stories. Regardless of our personal adventures, dating is much alive in America, and it remains the biggest way people connect for starting a relationship. Dating is still a vital institution.

Last weekend, Match.com hosted a Singles in America event in New York City, which was hosted by renown matchmaker and reality star Patti Stanger of Millionaire Matchmaker. Celebrity blogger Perez Hilton, Dr. Helen Fisher, Chief Scientific Advisor for Match.com, Leading Sex Expert Dr. Emily Morse and Cosmopolitan’s Sex & Relationship Editor Anna Breslaw rounded out the panel of experts who discussed the latest results of Match.com’s 2014 Singles in America study. During the event which was livestreamed over the Internet, we got the real scoop on how people look at dating—from first date expectations, to texting (and sexting), to the best time of the day to have sex, Match.com gave us the polled answers in an entertaining way.

Here are some of the findings released during the 4th Annual Match.com Singles in America Study:

  • iPhone users have more sex than Android users
  • When looking for love, the suburbs are where it’s at
  • Guys don’t like to receive text messages at work
  • On a first date, people look for 1. teeth 2. confidence 3. grammar

I have been through the singledom stage, and totally understand how hard it can be to find a suitable mate. Add all of the extras that go along with it, like dating profiles and technology, social media, and the like and it can be pretty hard out there. I am happy to know that Match.com has taken a lot of the guesswork out of dating, so people can get to the real stuff—a true connection. Which is what dating is about for many of us out there.
